About The Position
The RN demonstrates proficiency in administering the fundamentals of the nursing process in a specialty unit, contributes to nursing assessment and development of the nursing care plan, and participates in evaluating nursing care within an assigned unit, department, or specialty area. The RN shares responsibility with other health care disciplines and reports to the Department of Nursing Director.
Requirements
- Current Illinois Registered Nurse licensure.
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing.
- Maintain certification according to the requirements of the specialty unit.
- BLS certification within 30 days of hire and maintained throughout employment at CGH.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Prior knowledge of drawing blood.
- Thorough knowledge of medical equipment and instruments.
Responsibilities
- Ensure optimal patient care utilizing the nursing process.
- Maintain patient records and documentation to ensure an accurate record of the patient’s medical and nursing care.
- Administer and control narcotics, medications, and IV therapies in accordance with Registered Nurse requirements and the Nurse Practice Act.
- Assess and plan patient and family education and discharge needs.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- Initiate, delegate, and evaluate patient care team functions as part of problem solving.
- Promote an environment conducive to professional practice by serving as a role model and resource for other patient services team members.
- Maintain nursing skills and competencies based on current scientific knowledge.
