About The Position

The Clinical Staffing Management Specialist (CSMS) of the Staffing Management Center (SMC) assists in maintaining 24/7 accountability for the coordination of nursing and nursing support staff among various hospital departments throughout the Health System Enterprise. The incumbent uses critical thinking and the nursing assessment skill set for adequate distribution of staff to meet the individual needs of the patient care areas, using acceptable positive communication with all stakeholders. This individual has the authority to intervene in staffing issues within participating units to ensure overall hospital staffing. May be responsible for direct and indirect care of the patient. The incumbent is responsible for projecting staffing needs for peak times including holidays, vacation, etc. and allocating resources appropriately. The CSMS assists in the SMC�s office staff including hiring, supervision, evaluations, education and activities related to SMC office staff. This individual acts as a liaison between the SMC and the nursing units. The CSMS maintains a good rapport with inter/intra departmental staff. The CSMS maintains an open system of communication. This individual accurately maintains daily and master schedule records of nursing personnel throughout the enterprise. The incumbent accurately and efficiently staffs the nursing units with appropriate personnel; forecasts staffing needs on a shift-by-shift basis as dictated by census, acuity, and budgeted hours of care. The Manager proactively assesses and adjusts to staffing needs. This individual assist with the training/credentialing and hiring of Patient Care Techs, Sitters, and Float Pool Nurses within the organization to ensure standardized work that meets competency expectation to each area of the organization. Maintains personnel files with annual competencies/credentialing and performs annual performance evaluations in collaboration with Nurse Directors. The CSMS coordinates coverage and staffing of Patient Safety Aids (sitters) for behavioral health patients to insure one on one coverage as required by hospital policy and regulatory agencies. Responsible for contacting participating units to identify and rectify common staffing problems, such as missed punches and call-ins. The CSMS assists with the performance of the SMC including the oversight, development, orientation, education, evaluations of the staffing office associate's. This individual assists with general oversight and coordination of day-to-day nurse, PCT, and sitter staffing on the inpatient units throughout Erlanger Health System. As the SMC runs 24/7/365, the CSMS assists with on call and available via phone after hours for issues and questions that arise. The CSMS of SMC must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned units. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Two years of clinical experience.
  • Three of the six years as a registered nurse.
  • Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee.
  • BLS completed prior to going to unit/department and maintained going forward.
  • ACLS required within six months of hire.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
  • Possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Nursing float pool experience
  • Critical Care experience
  • Certification in area of specialty preferred.
