The RN Clinical Risk Management Specialist has oversight of the patient and family grievance process to ensure Kaweah Health is promptly responding to care concerns. The Specialist also has oversight and monitoring of quality of care and patient safety concerns in the clinical setting. Requirements

  • CA RN license
  • At least two years of hospital acute care experience
  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work independently with little supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM)
  • BSN, MSN, or currently enrolled in RN-BSN program

Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical risk management support to Kaweah Health Directors, managers, and staff, assisting them in investigating various risk issues and identifying/analyzing patient care issues.
  • Investigates various risk, complaints, and grievance issues or occurrences, responding to calls, ensuring manager awareness, and collaborating on investigations.
  • Reviews and analyzes patient's medical records for applicable documentation.
  • Communicates medical staff issues to the Medical Staff Office.
  • Assists the RM Coordinator with questions related to legal claims/complaints' medical record documentation and grievance investigations.
  • Provides risk management orientation and education to Kaweah Health staff, developing materials and presenting to new clinical staff and managers.
  • Coordinates DHS visits and reporting activities, maintaining filing systems and assisting with action plans and responses.
  • Collaborates with the PI Department staff to improve processes, meeting to review occurrences and identifying trends for process improvements.
  • Communicates effectively with Kaweah Health and medical staff, patients, families, and visitors in a respectful manner.
  • Assists the RM Director in Kaweah Health wide risk management and prevention activities, visiting campuses and units to evaluate risk issues and prevention activities, and providing written reports.
  • Attends and participates in appropriate Kaweah Health committees.
  • Manages the RM Department and Kaweah Health RM activities in the absence of the RM Director.
  • Responds to RM issues referred through the Occurrence Reporting database, performing investigations and documenting results.
  • Notifies the RM Director immediately of any high severity or high-risk occurrences.
  • Provides the RM Director a monthly report of RM referred occurrences with analysis and recommendations.
  • Makes recommendations to the RM Director for revisions to the database to improve data collection and reporting.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
