The Registered Nurse coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with the department’s requirements and the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. In collaboration with medical providers and other care team members, the RN provides individualized, comprehensive, compassionate care using established nursing models such as “Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage.” The RN advocates for patients, families, and caregivers and models the organization’s vision, mission, and values to support patient experience, clinical outcomes, and departmental performance. The RN performs procedures, monitoring, and other functions as ordered by medical providers; documents care promptly and thoroughly; and educates patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions, status, treatment plans, medications and potential side effects, and follow-up measures. The RN explains complex medical terminology in an understandable way, teaches non-medicinal follow-up measures such as healthy diet, exercise, disease prevention, and lifestyle changes, and prepares patients and families for future self-management. The role also supports evidence-based practices and continuous process improvement to meet and exceed quality measures. The RN collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate, evaluate, customize, and deliver holistic treatment plans that promote and support recovery.
