The RN provides professional nursing care under the ANA scope of practice, using the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge while incorporating patient- and family-centered care principles. Under the direction of the Nurse Leader and in accordance with Corewell Health policies and procedures, the RN delivers quality care and recognizes the effect of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on outcomes. The RN incorporates patient and family input and goals into care planning, develops teaching strategies, and documents education and learning in the health record. The role is on 4NS, a 36-bed cardiac progressive care unit at Dearborn Hospital. The unit cares for hemodynamically stable adults age 18 and older who need monitoring every four hours, and pediatric patients age 14 and older in a private room with a guardian present. Patients wear telemetry monitors while on the unit. Common diagnoses include cardiac intervention, pre-CABG, arrhythmias, blood pressure abnormalities, congestive heart failure, substance abuse, and general medical conditions. The unit administers selected medication drips, including antiarrhythmics, IV nitroglycerin, heparin, non-titrating dopamine, and IV inotropics; it does not take patients on ventilators or heated high-flow oxygen modalities. The unit describes its environment as fast-paced and high-energy, with an emphasis on teamwork, kindness, respect, and a supportive, structured environment for team members’ growth. Families are included in patient care and decision-making.
