About The Position

This 18-bed cardiac unit specializes in the care of both cardiac and vascular patients. The typical patient population found in the CCU includes but is not limited to patients with diagnosis of chest pain, cardiac dysrhythmias, CHF exacerbation, hypertensive emergency, pulmonary embolism and/or DVT, and patients that have had AAA repair and carotid endarterectomy. Our unit is an intermediate/step down unit. Our nursing staff work closely with both our cardiology and vascular teams to ensure exceptional care for our patients. Requirements

  • Graduate from a recognized, accredited school of nursing Required
  • No experience required New Graduates of a nursing program eligible Required
  • RN - Registered Nurse - Georgia State Licensure and/or NLC/eNCL Multistate Licensure Current License in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or NLC/eNLC Multistate License. Required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Required
  • ACLS Certification - (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date) within 180 Days Required (for Cardiac Tele and Critical Care)
  • ACLS and PALS Certification - (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date)Experienced Emergency Department nurses will have 6 months to obtain the PALS certification. within 180 Days Required (for Emergency Department)
  • Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification – prior to independent chemotherapy administration Upon Hire Required (for Infusion/Oncology)
  • PALS Certification - required at Piedmont Columbus Hospital (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date)PEARS or PALS Certification - required at Piedmont Athens Hospital (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date) within 180 Days Required (for Pediatrics)
  • Surgical Services:Additional Required Certifications:PreOp/PACU/ENDO/CSU – ACLS; PALS if unit provides care to pediatric patients (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date)OR – BLS required only within 180 Days Required
  • Women’s Services:Additional Required Certifications:Labor and Delivery-ACLS Certification - (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date) NRP by the end of orientation period, AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Program within 12 months of start dateMother/Baby- NRP by the end of orientation periodNICU- NRP by the end of orientation periodNAT (Newborn Admission Team)- NRP by the end of orientation periodNursery- NRP by the end of orientation period within 180 Days Required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred

  • CDN (Certified Dialysis Certificate) preferred (for Dialysis)
  • NRP by the end of orientation period, AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Program within 12 months of start date (for Women's Services - Labor and Delivery)
  • NRP by the end of orientation period (for Women's Services - Mother/Baby, NICU, NAT, Nursery)
  • ACLS; PALS if unit provides care to pediatric patients (for Surgical Services)
  • BLS required only (for Surgical Services - OR)

Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle utilizing nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care for patients.
  • Functions within the framework of the policies and procedures of the organization and demonstrates professional growth and accountability.
  • Maintains standards of practice, coordinating patient care activities of all assigned staff in the provision of quality nursing care.
  • Performs patient assessments to include collection of data regarding the patient’s physical, psychosocial and health history.
  • Appropriately evaluates the developmental age of the patient when performing assessments, treatments and patient/family education.
  • Organizes patient data into the formulation of a plan of care; identifies additional information needed and makes care decisions based on identified needs. Identifies expected patient outcomes.
  • Carries out plan of care to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  • Provides patient care that is specific to the setting, identified needs and plan; ensures that the care provided is appropriate to the severity of the disease, condition, impairment or disability.
  • Oversees activities of ancillary and support team members.
  • Identifies teaching opportunities and provides the resources necessary for achieving the educational goals of the patients.
  • Communications issues/concerns to the Charge Nurse, Clinical Manager and/or physician as appropriate.
  • Documents patient care and concerns in the patient record.
