About The Position

This is a Per Diem position for a Registered Nurse in the Birthing Center. The role involves utilizing the nursing process for patient care, including assessment, documentation, and discharge planning. The nurse will also be responsible for acting as a charge nurse, demonstrating proficiency in nursing informatics, serving as a resource person for patient care and staff orientation, and participating in unit meetings and educational programs. Additionally, the role includes identifying and evaluating aspects of care, adhering to safety policies, assessing personal learning needs, and maintaining professional development. The nurse will represent the hospital positively in the community and within the organization, maintaining confidentiality and providing service excellence to all individuals. Other work-related duties as assigned by the supervisor are also part of the role.

Requirements

Ability to read, write and communicate in English
Graduate of a School of Nursing
(RN) - Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
(BLS) - Basic Life Support certification
CCHC Pharmacology Exam (pass prior to start date)
(ACLS) – Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (obtain within 6 months, offered within)
(De-escalation) - Completion of an approved De-escalation Certification Course (obtain within 90 days, offered within)
(PALS) – Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification (obtain within 6 months, offered within)
(FHM) - Fetal Monitor Course every 2 years
Recent OB experience within 2 years
Copy of the highest-level clinical diploma/degree and/or transcript required for those employees performing moderate complexity testing
Completion of Baby-Friendly competencies within 1 year of position
Completion of scrub training for cesarean sections within 1 year of position
Per Diem: (2) Two years previous Birthing experience required

Responsibilities

Properly utilizes the nursing process in caring for patients by maintaining relevant, accurate and current patient records as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.
Provides documentation of assessment of the patient throughout the Hospital admission including physical, psychological, social dimensions and discharge plans. Summarizes assessment data and initiate plan of care with communication of pertinent data to allied patient care providers as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.
Understands, assumes, and demonstrates proficiency in the role of charge nurse.
Demonstrates proficiency in Computerized Nursing Informatics (information systems).
Assumes role of resource person regarding patient care, orientation and teaching staff.
Participates in at least four-unit staff meetings per year and attends mandatory educational programs.
Participates in identification of the aspects of care for the patient, indicators used to monitor the quality and appropriateness of care, and the evaluation of that care. Adheres to safety, blood/body fluid policies and procedures.
Assesses personal learning development needs. Maintains documentation of current and ongoing professional development activities. Regularly up-dates knowledge of techniques and regulations appropriate to the age of the patient served. Shows a willingness to participate on Nursing Committees.
Represents hospital in the community and within the hospital by maintaining confidentiality regarding patients and hospital matters and by presenting the hospital in a manner that will best market the services provided.
Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers.
Performs other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested his/her immediate supervisor.
