About The Position

Texas Health Plano is seeking a dedicated Risk Manager to join their dynamic Risk Management Department. This full-time role focuses on patient safety and risk management using a High Reliability approach. The Risk Manager will collaborate closely with hospital managers, the executive team, and system peers, with opportunities for educational and career growth. The department is described as a dynamic team that works both independently and collaboratively.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or related healthcare field required
  • Three years of clinical experience required
  • Other appropriate clinical licensure for discipline upon hire required
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and manage information

  • Master’s Degree
  • 3 years risk management, quality management, legal or patient safety preferred
  • CPHRM – Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management upon hire preferred

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the reliability learning tool to recognize and address patient safety/risk exposures affecting the quality of care and outcomes. Makes medical staff quality review referrals as appropriate. Aggregates, analyzes, and prepares data reports using statistical and other methods.
  • Facilitates the Risk Management Program, including identification, analysis, planning, and implementation focusing on adverse events or compromises to patient/environmental safety. Actively engages in the Patient Safety Program to develop medical error reduction strategies and tools. Collaborates with hospital departments and committees to implement improvements and serves as a risk management representative for committees.
  • Participates in the THR claims management process by investigating events that may lead to compensable events, claims, or lawsuits. Provides information to THR Litigation for claims determination and liability assessment. Assists outside attorneys in defending lawsuits against the hospital.
  • Coordinates and facilitates the activities of the Risk Management Committee, including identification and analysis of possible cases, summary preparation, and presentation. Serves as a liaison between medical staff leaders and the risk management department.
  • Facilitates resolution of patient/visitor/family/physician complaints, employing conflict resolution and negotiation skills as necessary.
  • Provides advice and mentoring to hospital directors and staff on patient safety and risk management activities, including reliability learning management, plans of action, policy development, regulatory compliance, risk management reporting, and patient safety standards. Conducts and coordinates risk audits/surveys. Provides risk management/patient safety education.
  • Reviews unusual or sentinel events, collects documents, and provides summaries on risk management cases (lawsuits, potential compensable events, claims, investigations). Conducts Root Cause Analysis/Failure Mode Analysis for improvement opportunities and regulatory compliance.
