About The Position

The 2027 Summer Internship Program at Raymond James offers a 10-week immersive experience focused on risk management. Interns will engage with the firm's core values and guiding behaviors through comprehensive orientation, training sessions, networking events, a speaker series, and volunteer opportunities. This program aims to equip interns with knowledge of the business and culture to build relationships and develop essential skillsets for their future careers. The Risk organization at Raymond James is responsible for maximizing the firm's ability to achieve its business objectives by creating a comprehensive approach to anticipate, identify, prioritize, and manage all material risks. This includes financial and non-financial risk management activities across various specialized teams such as Non-Financial Risk Management/Operations Risk Management, Model Risk Management, Credit Risk Management, Market Risk Management, Treasury Risk Management, and Enterprise Risk Management. Interns will support ongoing risk management consulting activities, partner with colleagues to evaluate control environments, develop recommendations for strengthening internal controls, and stay updated on regulatory changes. They will perform data collection and analysis to identify and minimize risk, assist in reviews to identify key controls and mitigation strategies, and document risk management and control issues. The role involves building relationships with stakeholders, preparing reports and recommendations, and performing other assigned duties. Specific focus areas for interns include Financial Risk Management (Market, Treasury, and Credit Risk) and Enterprise Risk, Model Risk Management and Risk Data & Analytics, and Non-Financial Risk / Strategy & Operations.

Requirements

  • Must be a junior or senior standing candidate pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a business-related field with a graduate date of May 2028 or December 2027.
  • Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of risk management.
  • Fundamental concepts of financial markets and products.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interfacing with all levels of management.
  • Strong analytical skills, particularly with regard to assessing the probability and impact of an internal control weakness.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, effective under pressure.
  • Proven ability to manage time and deliver against deadlines.
  • Direct experience or hands-on coursework utilizing SQL and Python for data analysis.
  • Attend to detail while maintaining a big picture orientation.
  • Gather information, identify linkages and trends and apply findings to assignments.
  • Interpret and apply policies and identify and recommend changes as appropriate.
  • Organize, manage and track multiple detailed tasks and assignments with frequently changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Meet tight deadlines within budgeted hours.
  • Work independently, demonstrating initiative and problem solving skills.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization.

  • Eligible applicants must be legally authorized to work in the US and not require visa sponsorship now or in the future (including beyond OPT/EAD).

Responsibilities

  • Supports ongoing risk management consulting activities for assigned area of responsibility in accordance with internal standards, relevant government statutes and regulations.
  • Partners with colleagues and business process owners to evaluate the control environment and develop recommendations to strengthen internal controls and mitigation strategies.
  • Stays up-to-date with evolving regulatory changes and market events impacting the business.
  • Develops and maintains an in-depth understanding of business areas, its products, and supporting functions.
  • Performs data collection and analysis in compliance with program requirements to assist in identifying, analyzing and recommending changes to core business processes to minimize risk.
  • Assists in performing reviews for assigned areas to identify key controls and mitigation strategies.
  • Performs evaluations of key controls or remediation activities.
  • Identifies, reviews, assesses and documents risk management and control issues in assigned business processes.
  • Assists in preparing written reports and recommendations on the effectiveness of assigned business processes and risk mitigation activities.
  • Builds and maintains key relationships with stakeholders demonstrating a culture of engagement and assistance.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
