About The Position

This 10-week summer internship program offers students the opportunity to dive into real projects within the Risk division at Barclays. Interns will gain hands-on experience, receive full support, take on meaningful responsibilities, and build lasting connections. The program is designed for individuals in their penultimate year who are ready to grow, learn, and make an impact. The Risk division at Barclays is involved in all aspects of the bank's operations, providing exposure to credit, market, operational, climate, and treasury risks. Interns will develop a solid understanding of Barclays' products and services, gain knowledge of different business areas, and learn to manage risk in alignment with the bank's strategy. Risk is presented as a dynamic and integral function within Barclays, involved in strategy formation and innovation.

Requirements

  • Must be graduating between December 2027 and June 2028.
  • Must have a GPA of 3.2 or above.
  • Must have completed coursework in, or have experience with, Python, R, SQL, SAS, Power BI, Databricks, or another data programming language.

Responsibilities

  • Support the day-to-day operations of the risk division by monitoring the bank’s risk profile.
  • Identify and manage risks.
  • Provide insights and expertise to support senior colleagues in making informed decisions.
  • Execute small research projects to support risk identification and strategic decision making.
  • Prepare presentations and reports to communicate findings to senior management.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives.
  • Participate in training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Review and challenge business propositions.
  • Manage business and client relationships under steadily decreasing supervision.
  • Support risk management and decision making by using financial models and strategies.
  • Perform prescribed activities in a timely manner and to a high standard, consistently driving continuous improvement.
  • Develop technical expertise in work area, acting as an advisor where appropriate.
  • Partner with other functions and business areas.
  • Take responsibility for end results of a team’s operational processing and activities.
  • Escalate breaches of policies/procedure appropriately.
  • Take responsibility for embedding new policies/procedures adopted due to risk mitigation.
  • Advise and influence decision making within own area of expertise.
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work owned or contributed to.
  • Deliver work and areas of responsibility in line with relevant rules, regulations, and codes of conduct.
  • Maintain and continually build an understanding of how own sub-function integrates with function, alongside knowledge of the organization's products, services, and processes within the function.
  • Demonstrate understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organization's sub-function.
  • Make evaluative judgments based on the analysis of factual information, paying attention to detail.
  • Resolve problems by identifying and selecting solutions through the application of acquired technical experience and will be guided by precedents.
  • Guide and persuade team members and communicate complex/sensitive information.
  • Act as a contact point for stakeholders outside of the immediate function, while building a network of contacts outside the team and external to the organization.
