About The Position

This position is for the 2026-2027 school year. The role focuses on supporting students in their growth of knowledge and development to their fullest capacity, working collaboratively with parents in educating students. The position is located at John F Kennedy Elementary and is a 0.875 FTE role, meaning 35 hours per week over a 9-month period.

Requirements

Two years of post high school education or higher, or be able to pass a standardized test approved by the state of South Dakota, for designated Education Assistant positions.
Must demonstrate and pass safety competency review on a yearly basis.

Responsibilities

Assists students in accessing transportation.
Provides personal care to students with special daily living needs (e.g., toileting, feeding, physical management) in accordance with established safety competencies.
Provides review and practice of skills taught by a teacher with students 1:1 and in small groups in special education classroom and/or regular classroom.
Works with students in schools and in community sites.
Prepares instructional materials as directed/selected by teacher.
Reinforces instructional/behavioral objectives with children as directed by the teacher/therapist.
Provides assistance to maintaining student records (charting, assignments, attendance, data for progress notes).
Monitors identified student(s) in lunchroom/on playground.
Maintain the confidentiality of students and their families.
Assists with management of student behavior.
Performs other duties as assigned.
