About The Position

Provides highly skilled, discipline-specific technical skills needed for the successful operation and maintenance of Rigging and Staging elements for assigned Entertainment venues, projects, events, and productions. Ensures the highest levels of show quality and a positive guest experience. Responsible for the appropriate implementation of all policies and procedures, including high-risk, for assigned area and team, as defined by ANSI, ESTA, and Universal Orlando, governing the safe operation of all technical equipment.

Requirements

  • Tech I: 5 plus years’ experience within the assigned technical discipline.
  • Tech II: 2-5 Years experience within the assigned technical discipline.
  • Tech III: 0-2 years’ experience within the assigned technical discipline.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License is required to operate company vehicles.
  • UO provided annual training is required for heavy equipment operation.
  • UO provided Rope Access class (Tech I).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a CDL (if required) (Tech I).

Nice To Haves

  • Technical school, College or University technical theater program is preferred (Tech I).
  • Prior experience within the professional theme park, theater, corporate event and/or film/tv industries in a technical capacity (rigging and staging), or equivalent combination of education and experience (Tech I).
  • Preferred ETCP certification, PETZL rigging inspection class, CM motor certified, Truss Inspection certification (Tech I).
  • Technical school is preferred (Tech II, Tech III).
  • Prior experience within the professional theme park/theater industry in a technical capacity (Rigging and Staging); or equivalent combination of education and experience (Tech II, Tech III).

Responsibilities

  • Ensures installation, operation, or strike of rigging equipment or systems per management's direction.
  • Assesses hazards associated with rigging and staging equipment or systems.
  • Determines mitigations with the team and ensures implementation, completing all documentation and communicating with leadership.
  • Accomplishes tasks as directed by the Lead Tech and rigging and staging management that supports the team’s mission with little to no oversight, while working at height.
  • Facilitates and troubleshoots with accountability for completion of projects.
  • Operates large vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Lifts and places irregular objects and maneuvers heavy equipment in all directions in tight spaces.
  • Acts as a spotter and provides correct hand signals for crane, hoist, and vehicle operation to ensure safety and to protect UO’s assets.
  • Responsible for inventory, maintenance, and inspection of assigned technical equipment.
  • Researches and recommends alternative and new equipment to attain maximum operational reliability and efficiency.
  • Effectively communicates necessary information pertaining to the technical operation of the production, project, event, or venue, to the Lead Tech, upper management, and other affected team members.
  • Performs miscellaneous administrative duties and gathers other information as directed by management.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
  • Functions as the up rigger for installations and strikes within the assigned venue, project, event, or production (Tech II).
  • Assists with the operation of rigging and staging equipment (Tech II, Tech III).
  • Immediately elevates identified hazards to Lead for mitigation determination (Tech II).
  • Responsible for the appropriate installation/setup, storage, strike, and transportation of Rigging and Staging equipment (Tech II).
  • Elevates any technical problems or concerns to Lead or management as they occur (Tech II).
  • Assists Tech I with inventory, maintenance, and inspection of rigging and staging equipment (Tech II).
  • Submits proper paperwork for daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly inspections (Tech II).
  • Responsible for effectively communicating pertinent information, both written and verbal, which pertains to the technical operation of the assigned entertainment venue/event, to other disciplines, entertainment tech management, and team members of the venue/event (Tech II).
  • Will act as a ground rigger while assisting with installation / strike of the rigging and staging equipment within the assigned venue, project, or event (Tech III).
  • Assists with the preparation, loading, unloading and transportation of rigging and staging gear and other equipment and materials (Tech III).
  • Assisting with the use and operation of the rigging and staging equipment within the assigned venue, project, or event (Tech III).
  • Responsible for the appropriate maintenance of rigging and staging equipment under the supervision of the Lead Tech (Tech III).
  • Assists in inspecting department’s equipment inventory (Tech III).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
