About The Position

Orion Marine Group has an immediate opening for Riggers, in Tampa, FL. This position is accountable for providing support to craft workers at marine project locations for Orion Marine Construction, Inc. Incumbents are responsible for performing a variety of tasks in support of Crane Operators, Pile Drivers, Welders, Carpenters and other skilled workers. Typically, they will also work closely with a Barge Foreman, Crane Operator, Boat Captain and other site field personnel.

Requirements

A minimum of two (2) years crane rigging and/or operations experience on land and on barges or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary piledriving and crane operations skills, knowledge and abilities is required.
Be able to read and understand blueprints or site plans from which the piledriving work will be done.
Have general knowledge of construction rigging – use of slings, cable chokers, spreader bars, multi-part load blocks, etc.

Responsibilities

Works as assigned by the Barge Foreman to ensure the successful completion of on-going or new marine construction projects.
Signals or verbally directs operators engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and materials.
Test rigging to ensure safety and reliability.
Attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving, using hand and power tools.
Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weights and sizes, facilities, and work schedules.
Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces, using chain falls, gin poles, gallows frames, and other equipment.
Signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
Assists in unloading and assembling of crane or other hoisting equipment to be used in piledriving activities.
Unloads and assembles piledriving hammer and leads.
Unloads various types of piling – concrete, pipe, timber, steel sheet piling, etc.
Assists in fueling, lubricating, and maintaining the piledriving hammer.
Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.
Performs other related duties as may be assigned or requested by immediate supervision.
