RFIC Design Engineer

Apple•San Diego, CA

About The Position

The RFIC Design Engineer provides RFIC solutions for wireless SoCs and drives them through mass production for Apple Wireless Connectivity products. The wireless RFIC team architects, develops, and validates radio transceivers integrated into sophisticated wireless SoCs. The role is part of a vertically integrated wireless organization spanning RF/analog and systems/PHY/MAC architecture and design, VLSI/RTL design and integration, emulation, design verification, test and validation, and firmware/software engineering. The engineer contributes to wireless SoC design and Apple wireless connectivity solutions used in a large number of products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 or more years of relevant industry experience.
  • Deep understanding of analog design concepts, including noise, linearity, mismatch, stability, and other analog impairments.
  • Experience with Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre RF, MATLAB, electromagnetic simulation tools such as EMX and HFSS, or similar tools.
  • Direct experience designing and bringing wireless transceivers in deep sub-micron RFCMOS technology into mass production.
  • Deep understanding of analog, mixed-signal, and RF circuit design, including LNAs and PAs, PLL/VCO/DCO/LOGEN blocks, mixers, baseband filters and amplifiers, data converters, and associated calibration methods.

Nice To Haves

  • MSEE and PhD, plus relevant industry experience.
  • 10 or more years of RF/analog and mixed-signal design experience in advanced RF CMOS design.
  • Familiarity with RF transceiver architectures and trade-offs, system specifications, and translating system requirements into IC-level circuit requirements in collaboration with system architects.
  • Strong understanding of how modulation type affects radio architecture and requirements.
  • Proven ability to work with digital design groups to determine an effective partition between digital and analog domains.
  • Familiarity with wireless SoC integration flows and challenges.
  • Extensive experience in silicon characterization and debug.
  • Ability to drive effective production test and quality assurance methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide RFIC solutions for wireless SoCs and drive them to mass production.
  • Contribute to the architecture, development, and validation of radio transceivers integrated into wireless SoCs.
  • Work with product development groups across Apple on wireless connectivity technologies.
