RF Engineer (Starlink) - Bastrop TX

VetJobs•Bastrop, TX

About The Position

SpaceX is seeking an RF Engineer for Starlink, its broadband internet system. The engineer will own phased-array, Wi-Fi, and other RF systems for customer-facing hardware, as well as advanced parabolic antenna systems for gateways and ground stations. The role involves designing, implementing, and verifying router antennas, phased arrays, and reflector antenna systems, from initial concept development through full-scale production. The engineer will collaborate with electrical, silicon, software, mechanical, and manufacturing teams and interact with senior leadership to influence the operation of the Starlink constellation and network.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or another engineering discipline.
  • At least 1 year of professional RF experience with antennas or communication systems; internship and extracurricular experience is applicable.
  • At least 1 year of professional experience with radio test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, vector signal analyzers, vector signal generators, and network analyzers.
  • At least 1 year of professional programming experience in Python, C#, C++, or MATLAB.
  • Ability to work extended hours or weekends as needed for mission-critical deadlines.
  • Must meet U.S. export-control eligibility requirements: be a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, or be eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or PhD in electrical engineering with an emphasis in RF or antenna engineering.
  • Experience designing wireless communications systems.
  • Experience with basic principles of antenna theory.
  • Understanding of link budgets and communications-related analysis.
  • Thorough understanding of RF active and passive components.
  • Experience characterizing radio performance at microwave frequencies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Passion for problem solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a highly cross-functional role.

Responsibilities

  • Design, fabricate, and characterize antenna, feed-system, and RF-front-end prototypes for next-generation phased arrays, gateways, and consumer wireless products.
  • Create electromagnetic simulation models of hardware, including antennas, filters, and PCB layouts, to design and evaluate performance.
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, DSP, and software engineers to design and validate RF systems.
  • Create and test phased-array alignment solutions.
  • Develop design-validation and production-test solutions for high-volume consumer products.
  • Write Python automation software to interact with units under test, test equipment, instrumentation, and documentation systems.
