RF Design Engineer II

RTX•Tewksbury, MA
•Onsite

About The Position

Raytheon, part of RTX, is hiring an electrical engineer to design and test RF systems, subsystems, components, and Active Electronically Steered Antennas (AESAs). The engineer will apply RF design theory, working knowledge of Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs), and electromagnetic and microwave theory. The role includes hands-on design and testing of microwave components, cards, and systems, as well as technical support for production activities. Team leadership, cost and schedule management, proposal writing, and presentation experience are desired. The position is primarily onsite in Massachusetts, with assignment to Andover, Tewksbury, or Marlborough based on business or program needs. Some travel to integration sites and customer or subcontractor facilities may be required.

  • Experience in microwave/RF system, subsystem, and/or component analysis, design, or testing.
  • Experience with an electromagnetic simulation tool such as HFSS, ADS, CST, Genesys, or Mentor Graphics Xpedition/Cadence Virtuoso, and an analytical tool such as MATLAB.
  • Experience performing basic RF calculations and cascaded analysis.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government-issued security clearance before the start date; ability to obtain an interim U.S. government-issued security clearance before the start date.
  • U.S. citizenship, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Background designing and testing analog CCAs, including frequency conversion, automatic gain control, amplifier design, and analog filter design.
  • Experience in electrical interconnects and transmission-line design.
  • Understanding of RF layout techniques from HF to X-Band.
  • Understanding of EMI analysis and mitigation techniques.
  • Ability to learn through self-study and work comfortably in a multitasking environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Understanding of allocating and flowing down requirements from the system to the component level.
  • Experience designing RF/microwave MMIC circuits, modules, or test fixtures.
  • Experience with GaAs and/or GaN MMIC devices.
  • Experience with integrated circuit layout and physical verification using Cadence Virtuoso software tools.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor processing and concepts, including GaAs, GaN, and SOI technologies.
  • Strong academic background with courses in Microwave Engineering, Microwave Systems, Electromagnetic Theory, and Radar Systems.
  • Strong hands-on microwave testing experience using spectrum analyzers, Real-time Spectrum Analyzers (RSAs), Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs), and Performance Network Analyzers (PNAs).
  • Experience in technical writing, proposal writing, and oral presentations.
  • Master’s or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Team leadership skills, including cost and schedule management, proposal writing, and presentation experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design RF microwave components and phased-array applications.
  • Develop insights in RF and microwave engineering that contribute to new concepts, theories, and products.
  • Design and/or test MMIC or module products and test fixtures at RF/microwave frequencies.
  • Integrate and test component-level and system-level phased-array hardware.
  • Provide technical support to production activities.
