RF Design Engineer II

RTX•Marlborough, MA
•$68,900 - $131,100•Onsite

About The Position

Raytheon, part of RTX, is seeking an electrical engineer to apply RF design theory and experience in design and testing of architectures, subsystems, components, and Active Electronically Steered Antennas (AESAs). The role uses working knowledge of Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs) and analytical skills in electromagnetic and microwave theory. The engineer will design and test microwave components, cards, and systems, and provide technical support to production activities. Team leadership skills, including cost and schedule management, as well as proposal writing and presentation experience, are desired. This is an onsite position at one of the Massachusetts locations: Andover, Tewksbury, or Marlborough. Location assignments will be based on business or program needs. Some travel to integration sites and customer and subcontractor facilities may be required. An active and transferable U.S. government-issued security clearance is required before the start date, and the candidate must be a U.S. citizen. The ability to obtain an interim U.S. government-issued clearance is also required before the start date.

Requirements

  • A degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and at least 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field.
  • Experience in microwave/RF system, subsystem, and/or component analysis, design, and/or testing.
  • Experience with an electromagnetic simulation tool such as HFSS, ADS, CST, Genesys, or Mentor Graphics’ Xpedition, Cadence Virtuoso, and an analytical tool such as MATLAB.
  • Experience performing basic RF calculations and cascaded analysis.
  • U.S. citizenship and an active, transferable U.S. government-issued security clearance before the start date; ability to obtain an interim clearance before the start date.

Nice To Haves

  • Background designing and testing analog CCAs, including frequency conversion, automatic gain control, amplifier design, and analog filter design.
  • Experience with electrical interconnects and transmission-line design.
  • Understanding of RF layout techniques from HF to X-Band.
  • Understanding of EMI analysis and mitigation techniques.
  • Ability to learn through self-study and work comfortably in a multitasking environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Understanding of allocating and flowing down requirements from the system to the component level.
  • Experience designing RF/Microwave MMIC circuits, modules, or test fixtures.
  • Experience with GaAs and/or GaN MMIC devices.
  • Experience with integrated-circuit layout and physical verification using Cadence Virtuoso software tools.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor processing and technologies such as GaAs, GaN, and SOI.
  • Strong academic background including coursework in Microwave Engineering, Microwave Systems, Electromagnetic Theory, and Radar Systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience with microwave testing techniques and equipment, including spectrum analyzers, Real-time Spectrum Analyzers (RSAs), Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs), and Performance Network Analyzers (PNAs).
  • Experience in technical writing, proposal writing, and oral presentations.
  • A master’s degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering.
  • Team leadership skills, including cost and schedule management.

Responsibilities

  • Design RF microwave components and phased-array applications.
  • Develop insights and concepts in the RF/Microwave field that contribute to new theories and products.
  • Design and/or test MMIC or module products and test fixtures at RF/microwave frequencies.
  • Integrate and test component-level and system-level phased-array hardware.
  • Provide technical support to production activities.
  • Travel to integration sites and customer and subcontractor facilities as required.
