About The Position
The Rework Grinder's primary mission is to remove surface and subsurface defects from castings to meet customer specifications. This role involves meticulous grinding and blending of defect areas and welds to precise blueprint tolerances. The position also includes inspection duties to ensure compliance with customer specifications, requiring the use of various measuring and testing devices. Additionally, the Rework Grinder is responsible for maintaining a safe work environment and may be required to handle hazardous waste. Training is provided on the job, with preferred courses in Rework Analysis and Visual Dimensional and Penetrant Inspection.
Requirements
- Grinding skills and working knowledge of grinding tools, equipment, and materials.
- Basic ability to follow instructions, read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations.
- Ability to use and read dimensional tools including calipers, gauges, and micrometers.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow specifications on Tech Cards and Process Control Procedures.
- Ability to lift and/or maneuver objects weighing thirty to fifty pounds and occasionally up to eighty pounds.
- Ability to work in difficult working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, temperature extremes, awkward physical positions and other elements for extended periods of time.
- Individuals may have contact with or be required to handle hazardous waste.
- Must be able to work under conditions requiring respiratory protection if applicable, which may include restrictions on facial hair.
Nice To Haves
- Rework Analyst, Visual Dimensional and Penetrant Inspection Courses preferred.
- May be required to complete hazardous waste management training.
Responsibilities
- Grinding and blending defect areas on castings to meet blueprint tolerances.
- Reviewing inspection paperwork, sketches, and blueprints to determine grinding requirements.
- Removing surface and blind cavity defects using various grinding tools.
- Blending and reworking repaired areas to specified tolerances.
- Verifying dimensional compliance using micrometers, calipers, and ultrasonic testing devices.
- Performing fluorescent penetrant inspection tests to verify defect removal.
- Completing logs and records.
- Providing work direction and training to junior-level grinders.
- Adhering to plant and department safety rules.
- Safely operating all equipment and tools.
- Identifying and reporting safety problems.
- Handling hazardous waste as required.
