About The Position

The Louisiana Sales and Use Tax Commission for Remote Sellers was created by Act 274 of the 2017 Regular Legislative Session. The Commission is charged with the administration and collection of sales and use tax with respect to remote sellers. We promote uniformity and simplicity in compliance, and we adhere to the Code of Government Ethics while providing leadership and professionalism in our duties to those we represent and serve. The Tax Specialist 2 processes returns and payments, manages remote seller accounts, and assists taxpayers with filing and compliance. Key Competencies: Attention to detail, analytical skills, knowledge of tax laws, strong communication, and accuracy in processing taxpayer information. This role supports a specialized statewide commission and plays a key part in the growing area of remote seller tax administration.

Requirements

  • Six semester hours in accounting, business, economics, finance, management, information systems management, or quantitative methods.
  • Four years of experience in accounting, financial auditing, tax administration, tax policy or law, management analysis, or administrative services in a financial setting.
  • Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus one year of experience in accounting, financial auditing, tax administration, tax policy or law, management analysis, or administrative services in a financial setting.
  • A bachelor's degree plus one year of experience in accounting, financial auditing, tax administration, tax policy or law, management analysis, or administrative services in a financial setting.
  • An advanced degree or Juris Doctorate.
  • Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or a current Louisiana license to practice law.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure payments are properly applied to taxpayer accounts.
  • Reconcile bank statements with payments received in the portal.
  • Authorize or recommend issuance of any refund or credit due.
  • Review penalty waiver requests and makes a determination or recommendation in accordance with Commission-adopted guidance.
  • Assist taxpayers with applications, filing of returns, payment of taxes, and any general questions.
  • Educate taxpayers regarding compliance with state statutes and local tax ordinances.
