About The Position

The Revenue Cycle Intern provides temporary, hands-on support to the Revenue Cycle team during the summer months. This role is designed to introduce students or early-career professionals to healthcare revenue cycle operations through structured exposure to patient registration, billing, and collections workflows. The intern supports day-to-day activities under close supervision while developing a foundational understanding of how patient care translates into accurate billing and timely cash collection.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in a program related to business, healthcare administration, or a related field
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Professional communication skills and customer-service mindset

Responsibilities

  • Observe and assist with patient registration and insurance verification activities
  • Support demographic and coverage data accuracy checks
  • Learn the importance of front-end accuracy on downstream billing and collections
  • Assist with basic billing tasks such as claim review preparation, documentation organization, and work queue support
  • Observe claim submission and follow-up processes
  • Learn common causes of claim errors and denials
  • Support account follow-up activities, including documentation gathering and account research
  • Observe payer and patient collection workflows
  • Learn escalation pathways and compliance considerations in collections
  • Assist with posting patient payments and balancing daily activity
  • Observe cashiering and deposit workflows
  • Learn reconciliation principles and internal controls related to cash handling
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and organizational policies
  • Demonstrate professionalism when interacting with patients, staff, and leaders
  • Participate in training, huddles, and learning activities as assigned
  • Complete special projects or administrative tasks as assigned to support departmental needs
  • Other job duties as assigned.
