About The Position

The department of Labor & Industries mission is to promote safe and healthy work environments in partnership with our customers. This Revenue Agent position is responsible for collecting debts owed to the department. This position specifically supports the agency’s strategic Goal #3 “Make it easy to do business with L&I” and Goal #4 “Help honest workers, businesses and providers by cracking down on the dishonest ones.”

Requirements

  • One (1) year of experience as a Revenue Agent 1 OR A Bachelor's degree involving major study in business administration, accounting, public administration, police science, economics, criminal justice, sociology, psychology, law, or closely related field.
  • One (1) year of experience in personal or corporate finance, law enforcement, adjustment of claims, collection of civil debts, or other directly related field.
  • Must possess a valid unrestricted driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Takes appropriate collection actions to resolve delinquent accounts. Collection actions may include the issuance of assessment orders, personal liability and prime contractor liability orders, warrants, judgements, garnishments, bond seizures, contractor registration suspensions, property seizures, stop-work and revocation orders.
  • Document all actions and research in ARC/LINIIS.
  • Researches and prepares professional documents with supporting evidence/exhibits for tax cases involving successorship, prime contractor liability, revocation of certificate of coverage and personal liability assessments.
  • Performs field visits to business and residential locations to investigate business operations, confirm business status, search for assets, serve legal orders, and gain compliance. This requires driving to locations to perform this duty.
  • Evaluates customer’s financial records and information to determine ability to repay debt owed to the agency.
  • Negotiates payment agreements with customers or their legal representative.
  • Monitor payment agreements and take appropriate actions if the customer defaults.
  • Locates assets and individuals using professional skip tracing methods that include, database searches, internet research, fact-finding interviews and field investigations.
  • Researches information utilizing a wide variety of computer systems and databases to resolve tax liabilities.
  • Assists and accompanies team members on more complex actions such as asset seizures, revocations and till taps.
  • Communicates with customers by phone, email, written correspondence, and in person to resolve delinquent accounts.
  • Educates customers and/or their representative on laws, rules, policies, procedures, quarterly reporting requirements, online filing and payment options.
  • Provide assistance with questions regarding collection actions and processes.
  • Documents all contacts and attempted contacts in the appropriate collections system.
  • Updates agency databases with the most current employer information; structure, banking information and social security numbers/FEIN numbers
  • Analyzes employer and account information for potential issues, fraudulent activity or criminal behavior.
  • Collaborate with internal/external compliance groups and make referrals through Referral Tracking System as appropriate
  • Processes reconsideration and appeals requests.
  • Provides expert testimony in legal/administrative hearings and in court relating to collection assignments, legal notices, proper service and actions taken.
  • Participates in staff meetings and work committees.
  • Attend scheduled trainings.
  • Work on special projects.
