Revenue Accounting Project Manager

Function HealthUS - Remote,

About The Position

The Revenue Accounting Project Manager will help build and standardize how Function Health's revenue accounting function operates — the processes it runs on and the systems that support them — without performing the close itself. This role sits at the intersection of accounting, process design, and cross-functional execution: you'll understand accounting treatment well enough to shape sound requirements and standards, and you'll project-manage the work needed to get there, in service of a team that owns the close. You'll work across multiple revenue streams, each with its own systems, maturity level, and open questions. You'll support the team's initiative roadmap by surfacing where a process or control needs attention, then take ownership of sequencing, scoping, and driving that work to a documented, repeatable outcome. That often involves systems and data, but just as often it's about establishing how something should work as a matter of process, independent of any one tool. The ideal candidate has an accounting background and can speak the language fluently, but is energized by building the structure around accounting rather than executing the close itself. You're naturally curious, comfortable digging into ambiguity to find the root cause of a problem, and able to independently manage a project from open questions to a finished, standardized process. You will report to the Senior Revenue Accounting Manager, and operate with a high degree of autonomy on your workstreams while receiving direction on priorities and judgment calls. This is a strong fit for someone who wants ownership over how the function's processes and initiatives take shape — bringing forward what they're noticing, flagging what doesn't make sense, and driving cross-functional projects to completion with minimal oversight once scoped.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressive experience spanning accounting and either project management, business/systems analysis, or accounting operations; Big 4 public accounting experience is strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Solid understanding of US GAAP and ASC 606 revenue recognition, including application to subscription or service-based revenue models — strong enough to shape sound requirements and standards, even without performing the close.
  • Demonstrated project management skills — able to independently scope, sequence, and drive a cross-functional initiative to completion.
  • Experience designing or standardizing operational processes and controls, not just executing within existing ones.
  • Strong data skills — comfortable working directly in large or imperfect datasets (Excel, SQL, or similar) to investigate issues rather than relying solely on pre-built reports.
  • Track record of working cross-functionally with non-accounting teams (data, engineering, product, or finance) and translating between accounting requirements and technical or operational execution.
  • Clear, precise written and verbal communicator, with an ability to document process and judgment calls in a way others can follow without you in the room.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience scoping, configuring, and testing ERP or revenue recognition system implementations (e.g., NetSuite, Rillet, Zuora, or similar platforms) as an accounting stakeholder.
  • SQL or other data-querying experience sufficient to independently investigate transaction-level data.
  • CPA certification (or equivalent)
  • Experience with subscription-based, membership, or consumer health/tech business models.
  • Hands-on use of AI or automation tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, advanced Excel/Sheets) in accounting or process-improvement workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Senior Manager in shaping the accounting initiative roadmap — surfacing process gaps, risks, and opportunities, then owning the scoping and prioritization of your workstreams once direction is set.
  • Design and standardize accounting processes and controls across revenue streams — independent of any single system — so operations run consistently and predictably as the business scales.
  • Own end-to-end project management for revenue accounting initiatives — scoping requirements, sequencing workstreams, tracking open items across stakeholders, and driving projects to completion against a deadline.
  • Serve as the connective tissue between Accounting and Data/Engineering, Finance, and Product — gathering requirements, resolving ambiguity between teams, and ensuring decisions made in one function are accurately reflected in another.
  • Translate accounting treatment and technical judgment into system requirements and configuration logic for ERP/revenue recognition systems, partnering with implementation teams and internal engineering resources.
  • Investigate data quality and process breakdowns by working directly with underlying datasets — tracing issues to root cause rather than reconciling around them, and partnering with Data/Engineering to fix them at the source.
  • Build and maintain documentation, mapping logic, and handoff materials that convert undocumented or ad hoc knowledge into clear, auditable procedures the accounting team can run against.
  • Prepare clear, organized documentation and data support for external audit and advisory partners on request, without owning the audit relationship directly.

Benefits

  • competitive salary and benefits package
  • flexible working hours
