About The Position

Duke Energy is seeking motivated and organized students for a Project Controls Internship. This program offers on-the-job experience in managing a portfolio of real capital projects, with opportunities for end-to-end ownership of distinct deliverables. Interns will enhance project management skills, build career-impacting interpersonal communication skills, and participate in a speaker series with Duke Energy leaders. The program also includes engagement and social activities with other interns to foster networking and community involvement. Interns will receive competitive hourly pay and 401K contributions, work on meaningful assignments impacting sustainability, and have access to mentorships and networking opportunities with Duke Energy Leaders. There is also a potential for full-time employment upon graduation and an opportunity to present impactful contributions to leadership and peers.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled and pursuing a four-year degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Building Science Accounting, Business Administration, Project Management, or other related degree.
  • Must not graduate prior to August 2026.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.
  • Must be able to work full-time (40 hours/week) throughout the duration of the summer.
  • Must possess all of the basic/required qualifications.
  • Must be able to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Microsoft Excel experience, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP etc.
  • Financial experience
  • Data analytics experience
  • Prior project management controls experience

Responsibilities

  • Assist with managing a portfolio of real capital projects.
  • Be assigned responsibility for specific tasks within the project management process as experience and skills are developed, including cost, schedule, communications, risk management, quality assurance of scheduling and cost management data, and metric reporting.
  • Ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget.
  • Generate reporting to effectively monitor and manage project performance.
