About The Position

The Return-to-Work (RTW) Program Manager provides leadership, development, and operational oversight of the RTW Specialist team while actively managing return-to-work services for Workers’ Compensation cases within an assigned geographic territory. This role partners closely with the Program Manager to ensure effective coordination of modified duty placements, transitional work planning, and successful return-to-work outcomes. The position requires extensive fieldwork, independent judgment, and frequent interaction with employers, medical providers, claims professionals, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of return-to-work, job accommodation, and transitional duty programs.
  • Understanding of Workers’ Compensation medical management principles and practices.
  • Ability to stay current on industry trends, standards, and regulatory changes.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
  • Analytical, interpretive, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while meeting productivity standards.
  • Proficiency with personal computers and business software, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Willingness to work extended hours as necessary to meet business needs.
  • Vocational Consultant with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in industrial or occupational case management and/or vocational services; or Registered Nurse (RN), Physical Therapist (PT), or Occupational Therapist (OT) with comparable Workers’ Compensation or vocational experience.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Workers’ Compensation claims; managed care organization experience preferred.
  • Proof of current state certification and licensure where applicable.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and coach a business department, fostering engagement and minimizing turnover.

Nice To Haves

  • One or more professional certifications preferred: CRRN, COHN, CDMS, CCM, CRC.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the RTW Specialist team to ensure efficient, high-quality program operations.
  • Act as a preceptor and trainer for RTW Specialists; coach and retrain team members as needed to drive performance, quality, and productivity.
  • Assist the Program Manager with team oversight, workflow management, and achievement of program objectives.
  • Serve as a subject-matter resource to AmeriSys and USIS departments regarding return-to-work and vocational services.
  • Direct and manage return-to-work efforts for injured employees within assigned territory.
  • Conduct job analyses and assessments of employer worksites to identify modified or transitional duty opportunities.
  • Coordinate return-to-work plans through direct employer contact, job search efforts, labor market surveys, and vocational analysis.
  • Evaluate, implement, and monitor transitional work plans, including timelines and outcome effectiveness.
  • Apply third-party guidelines, medical restrictions, and professional expertise to assess placement feasibility.
  • Maintain ongoing contact with injured workers to determine status, needs, goals, and return-to-work options.
  • Maintain regular follow-up with employers, clients, and injured workers post-placement in accordance with program guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation in claims systems, databases, and formal written reports.
  • Enter and maintain RTW data in Microsoft Teams and associated databases; prepare graphs, metrics, and statistics as needed.
  • Document vocational service outcomes, placement opportunities, and recommended rehabilitation plans.
  • Submit required productivity documentation accurately and on time.
  • Liaise with physicians, nurses, adjusters, employers, attorneys, state agencies, and other stakeholders to facilitate successful RTW outcomes.
  • Coordinate employer site visits to educate, train, and motivate stakeholders on transitional work opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable medical, legal, confidentiality, and accreditation standards.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all medical and case-related information in accordance with state and federal laws.
  • Perform job duties primarily in the field with frequent travel within the designated territory.
  • Safely operate a personal motor vehicle to attend appointments and employer site visits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
