MPI has a temporary opening for a Retirement Services Analyst. This individual delivers exceptional customer service while providing direct support and analytical pension benefits expertise to participants in MPI’s Defined Benefit (DB), Defined Contribution (DC), Individual Account Plan (IAP), and other local plans. The role combines front-facing Visitor Center responsibilities with detailed benefits processing, including retirement and distribution administration. Successful candidates will demonstrate outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, a strong commitment to delivering accurate and timely service, and the ability to create a positive experience for every visitor. We’re looking for keen attention to detail, analytical ability, and the capacity to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high standard of service excellence. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field preferred; or High School diploma with equivalent experience in customer service, benefits/pension work, or administrative work.
  • Minimum 3–5 years in customer service, benefits, or administrative functions; defined benefit plan, retirement benefits, or trust fund experience preferred.
  • Ability to understand, analyze, and explain complex pension and retirement information accurately, strong mathematical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong judgment, integrity, and discretion in handling confidential information, and consistently produces accurate, precise work.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word required; PowerPoint proficiency preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including professional phone, virtual, and in-person demeanor.
  • Reliable attendance, punctuality, and dependability, including the ability to work extended hours/overtime as needed.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and multitasking skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively with individuals at all levels and across departments.
  • Ability to accept direction and developmental guidance from supervisors to support professional development and growth.

Responsibilities

  • Assist participants with in‑person and virtual (Zoom) pension benefit verifications.
  • Provide signature witnessing services for pension and benefit‑related forms and documents.
  • Manage the Pension Benefit Verification mailbox, including reviewing, processing, and responding to verification requests from participants and authorized third parties.
  • Communicate with participants by phone, email, and in person to request required forms or documentation and explain benefit‑related processes.
  • Work with internal departments to resolve participant inquiries, issues, and escalations.
  • Resolve Unity Ticket and Laserfiche requests related to forms, documentation, and benefit verification.
  • Submit completed documents for imaging and record retention.
  • Determine participant eligibility for the MPI Pension Plan, Individual Account Plan, and other applicable plans.
  • Prepare and analyze/re-evaluate retirement benefit calculations and ensure pension system outputs are accurate; remediate issues as identified.
  • Prepare, generate, and send retirement and distribution applications, benefit election packets, and related correspondence.
  • Review and validate benefit election forms and all supporting documentation received from participants.
  • Assist in the preparation of pension files with complete supporting documentation for audit and final processing.
  • Assist in the maintenance of accurate and complete participant records within internal systems.
  • Assist with annual participant statements, required minimum distributions, and pension verifications.
  • Support special projects and perform other related duties as assigned to meet departmental objectives.
