About The Position

This position is responsible for managing the operations of the Gift Shop at Cathedral Gorge State Park. The role combines retail management and customer service to help create a welcoming and educational experience for park visitors. Key responsibilities include greeting guests, providing park and merchandise information, operating the Point of Sale (POS) system to process retail transactions, managing and restocking inventory, and receiving product deliveries. The storekeeper will also work directly with vendors to place orders and help develop site-specific products that reflect the unique features of the park. Additionally, this role requires accurate cash handling and ensuring timely and accurate deposits. The manager will ensure the Gift Shop areas are well stocked and organized and displays are shopper friendly. This position will ensure that the gift shop and the stockroom are kept clean and organized, with product displays being attractive and shopper friendly. The incumbent will be required to perform basic custodial duties (dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, etc.). This position requires the use of general office equipment, and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel programs. As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions at the Nevada Division of State Parks may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks. Retail Storekeepers perform merchandising and inventory control duties to maximize profits in a retail store or eCommerce environment which includes canteen stores and coffee shops in correctional facilities and other State retail operations. Incumbents oversee and participate in purchasing, inventory control and merchandising in a retail operation involving high volume turnover of a variety of merchandise which may include books, souvenir and logo items, gift items, school and office supplies, computer supplies, newspapers, magazines, tobacco products, food, soft drinks, personal hygiene items, clothing, shoes, small electrical appliances, and other items.

Requirements

  • One year of storekeeping or retail experience which included stocking, sales and/or customer service.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel programs.
  • Ability to perform job-related tasks.
  • Ability to systematically arrange similar kinds of stock and/or property into groups or categories according to established criteria
  • Ability to learn State and agency policies and procedures related to ordering merchandise for resale
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers
  • Ability to perform routine work according to set procedures and sequence
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others
  • Ability to read catalogs, instructions, forms, and other materials commonly used in a supply/procurement environment

  • Amending POS and re-pricing merchandise accordingly
  • In a correctional environment, receiving and inputting inmate orders per established procedures
  • Printing receipt/list of authorized purchases
  • Removing items from inventory and packaging inmate orders
  • Distributing inmate orders through a secure window or delivering merchandise to lockdown units
  • Verifying inmate’s identity
  • Checking each item against receipt quantity
  • Obtaining inmate’s signature to verify acceptance of merchandise
  • Ensuring items requested are within security level restrictions
  • Enforcing storeroom and computer security according to established policy and procedures
  • Polling inmate population
  • Revising, adding and deleting catalog entries to maintain the most recent information regarding merchandise available
  • Printing and distributing merchandise catalogs to appropriate security levels
  • Checking inmate accounts in the computer upon request from authorized facility personnel and printing reports
  • Cleaning and maintaining stockroom and equipment per established health and safety standards
  • In a Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) retail (for-profit) enterprise, developing or assisting in the development of the budget for assigned product lines
  • Projecting, planning and monitoring revenue, expenses, inventory control, wages, etc., in order to ensure attainment of profit goals
  • Projecting shortfalls or other obstacles toward goal attainment and implementing corrective action
  • Purchasing goods within open-to-buy limits
