About The Position
The Retail Store Tailor delivers high-quality craftsmanship and ensures a good fit for customers through clothing alterations, measurements, fittings, and garment repairs. The role requires attention to detail, strong sewing and alteration abilities, reliability, accuracy, efficiency, and a commitment to customer satisfaction. The Tailor collaborates with colleagues and upholds company standards to contribute to a positive and professional work environment. The Tailor performs standard garment alterations in accordance with company guidelines, maintains quality standards, presses garments, and keeps the work area and equipment organized and well maintained. The role also includes tagging and organizing completed work, monitoring tailoring supplies, and helping customers and sales staff as needed. The employee may voluntarily work across multiple store or site locations and brands.
Requirements
- Strong sewing and alteration abilities.
- Keen attention to detail and commitment to high-quality craftsmanship.
- Ability to operate small tools and equipment, including needles, scissors, sewing machines, and presses, with precision.
- Ability to understand, follow, and execute detailed instructions.
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
- Excellent time management skills to complete alterations within designated timeframes.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
- Ability to read, count, and write to complete required documentation accurately.
- Ability to bend, squat, lift arms overhead, and use ladders to access merchandise and supplies stored above shoulder level.
- Ability to work at least 20 hours per week when needed, including any days and hours the store is in operation.
Responsibilities
- Perform standard alterations, including pant hems, waist and seat adjustments, rise and tapering modifications, coat sleeves, side seams, and lower collar adjustments, in accordance with company guidelines.
- Maintain an average of 60 minutes of productive alteration work per working hour, allowing for rest and meal periods and non-tailoring tasks as needed.
- Ensure garments meet quality standards, including clean finishes, secure stitching, even seams, and removal of loose threads and pins.
- Press garments for a clean, crisp finish.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workspace and properly store and maintain tools and materials.
- Demonstrate proficiency with tailor shop equipment.
- Accurately tag and organize completed work for customer pickup.
- Monitor tailoring supplies and request replenishment from management as needed.
- Support front-of-house activities, such as cleaning, restocking merchandise, and assisting customers.
- Participate in customer consultations at management's direction and provide guidance on alterations and garment fit.
- Listen to customer needs and offer personalized solutions.
- Adapt to workload priorities and scheduling needs as directed by management.
- Share tailoring knowledge and techniques with fellow tailors to support consistent quality and skill development.
- Assist in training sales staff on tailoring fundamentals, including marking, fitting, measuring, and pressing techniques.
- Seek and respond to constructive feedback and promptly communicate concerns or requests to management.
- Report incidents, accidents, and safety hazards to the manager on duty and/or Regional Manager.
- Provide tailoring insights to sales staff to support product knowledge and customer experience.
- Maintain professional appearance and personal care.
