About The Position

The Retail Security Guard helps maintain a safe and welcoming environment for customers, employees, and vendors at Ross Park Mall in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The role requires attention to detail, professionalism, and a customer-first mindset. Duties may vary based on site needs.

The guard patrols assigned areas or maintains a fixed post, monitors security systems, controls access and traffic, responds to incidents, and documents activity. The role also involves inspecting the property for safety risks, supporting loss prevention, following post orders and emergency procedures, and providing professional assistance to customers, employees, and visitors.

This is a part-time seasonal position scheduled Monday through Wednesday from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM, at $16.00 per hour. Guards are expected to arrive on time in full uniform, remain engaged throughout their shift, and comply with safety, training, and other requirements.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• 3–6 months of security or life-safety experience.
• State Guard license.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to stay alert and respond calmly in emergency situations.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to follow directions.
• Ability to write clear and accurate reports.
• Professional appearance and demeanor.
• High level of attentiveness and situational awareness.
• Dependable and team-oriented.
• Able to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong work ethic with a sense of urgency.

Nice To Haves

• Prior security or customer-facing experience.
• Familiarity with CCTV, alarms, or access control systems.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas or maintain a fixed post to monitor activity.
• Control access points and manage pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
• Identify and report suspicious activity, incidents, or safety concerns.
• Respond to alarms, emergencies, and on-site incidents.
• Monitor CCTV cameras and security systems.
• Complete daily activity logs, incident reports, and required documentation.
• Maintain awareness of surroundings at all times.
• Follow post orders, company policies, and safety procedures.
• Maintain knowledge of emergency response protocols.
• Inspect property for safety risks, including fire hazards and equipment issues.
• Support loss prevention and recommend safety improvements.
• Greet and assist customers, employees, and visitors professionally.
• Provide directions and support as needed.
• Maintain a visible, approachable presence on-site.
• Arrive on time in full uniform and ready to work.
