About The Position

The Overnight Retail Security Guard helps maintain a safe and welcoming environment for customers, employees, and vendors at Ballston Quarter in Arlington, Virginia. The role requires attention to detail, professionalism, and a customer-first mindset. The schedule is 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, Saturday through Wednesday, and the position is full-time.

Duties may vary based on site needs. The guard is expected to arrive on time in full uniform, remain engaged and proactive throughout the shift, and follow safety, training, and compliance requirements. The role requires reliability, professionalism, and a commitment to maintaining a safe environment.

Requirements

• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to stay alert and respond calmly in emergency situations.
• Reliable and punctual, with the ability to follow directions.
• Ability to write clear and accurate reports.
• Professional appearance and demeanor.
• State Guard license required.
• High school diploma or GED.
• 3–6 months of security or life-safety experience.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks.
• High level of attentiveness and situational awareness.
• Dependable and team-oriented.
• Able to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong work ethic and sense of urgency.

Nice To Haves

• Prior security or customer-facing experience.
• Familiarity with CCTV, alarms, or access control systems.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas or maintain a fixed post to monitor activity.
• Control access points and manage pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
• Identify and report suspicious activity, incidents, or safety concerns.
• Respond to alarms, emergencies, and on-site incidents.
• Monitor CCTV cameras and security systems.
• Complete daily activity logs, incident reports, and other required documentation.
• Maintain awareness of surroundings at all times.
• Follow post orders, company policies, and safety procedures.
• Maintain knowledge of emergency response protocols.
• Inspect the property for safety risks, including fire hazards and equipment issues.
• Support loss prevention and recommend safety improvements.
• Greet and assist customers, employees, and visitors professionally.
• Provide directions and support as needed.
• Maintain a visible, approachable on-site presence.
• Arrive on time in full uniform and remain engaged and proactive throughout the shift.
