About The Position

This part-time position involves greeting customers, completing transactions efficiently and in a friendly manner, and supporting Goodwill's mission by encouraging customers to round up their purchases. The role requires excellent customer service skills and the ability to handle cash accurately. Associates will operate a point-of-sale (POS) system, maintain a clean and organized sales floor, and assist customers with inquiries and purchases. The position also involves opening and closing procedures, following all company policies and safety procedures, and potentially cross-training in other departments.

Requirements

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong cash handling skills are highly preferred.
  • Ability to accurately verify till counts and maintain a balanced cash drawer.
  • Ability to operate a computer-based point-of-sale system.
  • Ability to operate a credit card machine.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, managers, supervisors, staff, and peers.
  • Ability to withstand prolonged standing, bending, and lifting up to eight (8) hours per day.
  • Ability to see color for accurate transactions.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays with occasional overtime.
  • Must be accurate with numbers and general calculations.
  • Must understand the value of different coins and United States (US) currency.
  • Must be able to use basic math such as adding, subtracting, and multiplication.
  • Must be 18 years of age to participate in the retirement plan.

Nice To Haves

  • A High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • One (1) year of retail sales or cash handling experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greeting customers in a welcoming manner and responding professionally to inquiries.
  • Operating a point-of-sale (POS) cash register system to ensure accurate product and pricing verification.
  • Verifying till counts, providing accurate cashier transactions, and maintaining a balanced cash drawer.
  • Driving the roundup initiative by engaging customers and educating them about the mission.
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and well-stocked sales floor, including shelves, racks, and restrooms.
  • Completing opening and closing procedures.
  • Following all retail center policies and procedures.
  • Adhering to all safety processes and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Cross-training in other departments or areas and providing backup as needed.
  • Performing additional responsibilities as required.
