About The Position
Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries (OVGI), founded in 1916, uses revenue generated through its retail stores to support rehabilitation services for people with disabilities and local veterans experiencing homelessness. The Retail Sales Associate is a customer-facing role that provides service to shoppers and helps maintain an enjoyable, safe shopping environment. The associate works with teammates to prepare and display merchandise and provides operational support to store management. This position has no supervisory responsibilities. The role requires a flexible schedule supporting store opening, production, and closing operations, including weekends and holidays. The associate works in a non-climate-controlled environment and must be able to perform a range of physical activities, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting. The position is part-time and pays $13.00 per hour.
Requirements
- Ability to work a flexible schedule supporting store opening, production, and closing operations.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English with customers and OVGI associates.

- Ability to process information and merchandise through a computer system and POS register system, and use a calculator.
- Basic math and cash-handling skills, including counting and giving change and maintaining an accurate register, with or without a calculator.
- Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and twist for up to 8 hours.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds frequently.
- Ability to talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone.
- Close vision required for computer work.
- Regular, predictable attendance as business demands dictate.
Responsibilities
- Provide professional, friendly, and courteous service to customers in the store, outside the store, and over the phone.
- Process sales transactions accurately at the point-of-sale (POS) system.
- Work a supervisor-set flexible schedule supporting store opening, production, and closing operations, including weekends and holidays.
- Maintain knowledge of merchandise and answer customer questions courteously and promptly.
- Maintain dressing room standards.
- Maintain sales floor presentation and inform management when products need to be added or removed.
- Keep the register area orderly and clean.
- Execute store security procedures.
- Communicate store messages using the paging system.
- Perform housekeeping as needed, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, wiping shelves, and dusting restrooms and dressing rooms.
- Assist donors and customers outside retail locations, greet donors, receive donations, and provide donation receipts.
- Communicate OVGI's mission and vision to donors and customers when requesting monetary donations at the POS.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
