About The Position
The Retail Sales Associate provides excellent customer service as a first point of contact for retail customers and maintains the sales floor to support an enjoyable and safe shopping experience. The associate partners with team members in a fast-paced environment to process merchandise for sale and display, and provides operational support to the management team. The role also supports Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries’ rehabilitation services through retail operations and communicates the organization’s mission and vision to donors and customers. This position has no supervisory responsibilities. The stated pay rate is $13.00 per hour. Requirements
- Ability to work a flexible schedule supporting store opening, production, and closing operations.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English with customers and Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries associates.
- Excellent verbal communication, active listening, sales, and customer service skills.
- Ability to anticipate customers’ needs.
- Ability to process information and merchandise using a computer system and point-of-sale register system, and to use a calculator.
- Basic math and cash-handling skills, including counting and providing change and maintaining an accurate register with or without a calculator.
- Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and twist for up to 8 hours.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds frequently.
- Ability to talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone.
- Close vision required for computer work.
- Regular, predictable attendance as business demands dictate.
Responsibilities
- Provide professional, friendly, and courteous service to customers in the store, outside the store, and over the phone.
- Process sales transactions accurately at the point-of-sale system.
- Work a flexible schedule set by the supervisor to support store opening, production, and closing operations, including weekends and holidays.
- Maintain knowledge of merchandise and respond to customer questions courteously and promptly.
- Maintain dressing room standards and sales floor presentation, and communicate product needs to management.
- Keep the register area orderly and clean.
- Execute store security procedures.
- Communicate store messages using the paging system.
- Perform housekeeping as needed, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, wiping shelves, and dusting restrooms and dressing rooms.
- Assist donors and customers outside retail locations, greet donors, receive donations, and provide donation receipts.
- Communicate the organization’s mission and vision to donors and customers when requesting monetary donations at the point of sale.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
