About The Position

Kelley’s Market is hiring Retail Sales Associates to provide friendly customer service and help keep its convenience store running smoothly. This hands-on role includes cashier transactions, stocking shelves and coolers, maintaining clean and welcoming store areas, and supporting daily operations. Associates help customers with products, prices, and promotions; keep merchandise and food and beverage areas stocked; follow food safety, safety, security, and cash-handling procedures; and communicate issues to store leadership. The role is based at Kelley’s Market on West Street in Freeport, Illinois, and offers full-time or part-time work. Pay is $15–$18 per hour based on relevant experience, knowledge, skills, education, and certifications, with an additional $3 per hour for hours worked between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Requirements

• Be at least 21 years old.
• Provide friendly, dependable customer service in a busy retail environment.
• Communicate clearly and work effectively with team members and store leadership.
• Use basic math skills to handle cash and process transactions accurately.
• Be available to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Stand for extended periods, frequently lift up to 30 pounds, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
• Work in coolers, freezers, and outdoor conditions.
• Obtain an alcohol sales operator license where required.

Nice To Haves

• Previous work in retail, a convenience store, or a gas station.
• Experience as a cashier or in another customer service role.
• Experience handling cash or completing shift reports.

Responsibilities

• Welcome customers and provide friendly, efficient service.
• Operate the cash register and point-of-sale system, process purchases and refunds, and handle cash accurately.
• Answer questions about products, prices, and promotions.
• Stock and organize shelves, coolers, freezers, and merchandise displays.
• Keep the sales floor, restrooms, and exterior areas clean, including fuel pumps and the car wash where applicable.
• Maintain clean, stocked Kelley’s Café food and beverage areas and follow food safety procedures.
• Complete shift paperwork and assist with cash and safe reconciliation.
• Follow safety, security, and cash-handling procedures.
• Communicate customer concerns, equipment problems, and other issues to store leadership.
• Work with the team to keep daily store operations running smoothly.
