About The Position
Inova Schar Cancer Center Pharmacy is seeking a dedicated Retail Pharmacy Technician 1 to assist pharmacists with medication and supply processing, preparation, filling, labeling, and dispensing. The role includes prescription processing and computer entry, preparing medications for clients, maintaining equipment and temperature logs, and monitoring inventory for expired products. This is a full-time position with Monday–Friday days/evenings rotating shifts; weekends may be needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Registered Pharmacy Technician in the state of Virginia or a Pharmacy intern license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 3 months of hire.

- One year of Retail Pharmacy Technician experience.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Pharmacist in reviewing, processing, preparing, filling, labeling, and dispensing medications and supplies.
- Clean equipment and maintain required temperature logs according to system policies and procedures.
- Check medication and administration supply inventory for out-of-date products, remove those products, and work with the appropriate resource to record them in the Expiring Medication log book.
- Enter prescription information into the computer, including patient and prescriber search, drug selection, prescription interpretation and entry, insurance billing, and basic problem resolution.
- Prepare medications for clients by mixing medications, counting pills, and labeling bottles.
