The Retail Food Service Manager leads daily retail operations and supervises a team of approximately 25–30 employees, including multiple supervisors and team leads. This role partners closely with the Patient Services Manager, Inventory Manager, Chef, Sous Chef, Clinical Manager, and Senior Director to meet performance, quality, and satisfaction goals across the retail program. Eastern Maine Medical Center is a 400-bed hospital, and the retail café operates multiple food and beverage concepts, generating approximately $80,000–$90,000 in weekly sales.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree with three or more years of relevant experience
  • 1–3 years of retail foodservice management experience, preferably in healthcare or high-volume environments
  • Strong background in retail operations and people management
  • Experience managing cash-handling operations and point-of-sale systems
  • Knowledge of foodservice trends with a focus on quality, sanitation, cost control, marketing, and presentation
  • Proven leadership, coaching, and team-development skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills across all organizational levels
  • Financial, budgeting, and analytical skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, email, and general computer systems

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Service Management, Hospitality, Business, or related field preferred
  • P&L accountability and experience in contract-managed services preferred
  • Retail marketing experience highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all retail café operations, ensuring compliance with corporate policies, presentation standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Plan and supervise special events and retail promotions
  • Manage hiring, training, coaching, and performance of hourly team members and supervisors
  • Ensure excellent customer satisfaction and positive public relations through efficient and safe use of resources
  • Train staff on customer service standards, portion control, cashier procedures, and food safety/sanitation
  • Maintain cash controls, payroll records, and accurate financial reporting
  • Implement and monitor cash handling procedures to prevent loss or theft
  • Complete all required daily, weekly, and monthly reports within established timelines
  • Communicate effectively with team members, hospital leadership, patients, and families
  • Drive sales performance while maintaining operational efficiency and cost controls
