As a Manager Laboratory you will manage laboratory resources to assure the quality, integrity, continuity, and proper dispersion of analytical data generated by the laboratory personnel. Job Duties: Set strategic direction for refinery product quality conformance and lab capability. Act as liaison between the lab and other departments. Serve as a technical resource for operational issues including problem solving, engineering studies, and unit surveys. Implement and/or initiate non-routine lab studies relating to plant operation. Evaluate and communicate lab results to other plant departments. Ensure reliable and efficient laboratory operations. Coordinate equipment support at laboratories. Manage those individuals responsible for lab operation. Implement and manage test schedules. Negotiate with 3rd party vendors. Interface with government inspectors, and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements for final products and environmental testing. Conduct final review of all process and certification data. Demonstrate proficiency with laboratory software and instrumentation. Serve as administrator for the laboratory information system and data acquisition software. Review and supervise laboratory safety training. Oversee routine and non-routine maintenance of laboratory equipment. Prepare and stewards laboratory yearly capital and expense budgets. Ensure overall safe operation of the laboratory, which includes the laboratory safety and chemical hygiene program. Review and evaluate job performance of all lab personnel. Follow and enforce all safety rules and guidelines as established by the Refinery. Achieve high-levels of productivity and safety under continuous level of stress. Allocate and balance lab resources. Responsible for oversight, coordination, and implementation of facility’s compliance with US EPA and state Clean Fuels regulations Serve as the site-specific SME on corporate guidance documents and site-specific procedures for tasks to comply with final product batch sampling, sample handling, testing and quality assurance programs required by EPA regulations. Serve as a team member to address potential Clean Fuels compliance issues and collaborate across multiple departments/systems as needed. Participate in EPA Annual Attestations and other audits/compliance assessments and oversee the implementation/amendment of procedures/checklists to alleviate potential non-compliance issues. Participate in periodic meetings and teleconferences of the Valero Fuels Compliance Leaders’ Network. This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.
