About The Position

The purpose of the role is to safeguard the financial health of the bank by identifying, analysing, and mitigating potential credit risks associated with lending activities. This involves analysing financial data, monitoring existing loan portfolios, recommending loan actions, and developing credit risk mitigation strategies. As an Assistant Vice President, expectations include advising and influencing decision-making, contributing to policy development, taking responsibility for operational effectiveness, and collaborating closely with other divisions. For leadership roles, this includes setting objectives, coaching employees, and appraising performance. For individual contributors, it involves leading collaborative assignments, guiding team members, identifying new directions for projects, and consulting on complex issues. The role also involves mitigating risk, developing new policies/procedures, and strengthening controls. It requires understanding how different areas coordinate to achieve organizational objectives and collaborating with business-aligned support areas to stay informed about business activity and strategy. This role involves complex analysis of data from multiple internal and external sources to solve problems creatively and effectively, and communicating complex information, which may include sensitive or difficult-to-communicate content, to influence stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Analysis of financial data, including income, assets, liabilities, credit history, and economic trends, to determine the risk of default.
  • Monitoring of existing loan portfolios to identify potential credit deterioration or early warning signs of default.
  • Recommendation of loan approvals, rejections, or adjustments based on risk evaluation and bank lending policies.
  • Development and implementation of credit risk mitigation strategies, including collateral management, loan restructuring, and workout plans.
  • Execute Retail Loan Review operating procedures and independently evaluate the effectiveness of credit policy, underwriting decisions and processes.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and request remediation of lending practices for first- and second-line risk teams.
  • Test adherence to delegated lending authority for US Consumer Bank.
  • Assist with creation of appropriate documentation and report/track remediation status of findings and issues.
  • Test lending decisions for quality of approval/decline outcomes and line assignment, and for adherence to Credit Policy requirements and criteria.
  • Identify opportunities through analytics that can be used in performance analysis and potential improvements to credit risk strategy and judgmental lending processes.
  • Support the team with responses to regulatory requests.
  • Prepare documentation and report findings to appropriate forums and committees.
  • Keep record and periodically follow-up on progress of findings raised by Loan Review in accordance with the Barclays Issue Management Standard.
  • Complete ad hoc projects and tasks assigned by Enterprise Risk Management.
  • Assess compliance with laws and regulations, internal credit policies, operating procedures and business rules.
