This includes accurately selecting, preparing, and labeling medications, handling hazardous drugs and controlled substances, and assisting with medication distribution tasks. The role also involves screening phone calls, managing pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. Specific duties may include documentation for controlled substances, nonsterile compounding, sterile IV admixture, inspecting medication storage areas, and completing medication admission histories. The technician may also participate in quality improvement initiatives, assist in training other technicians, and support area leaders. Responsibilities include obtaining and recording patient demographic information, data entry into the pharmacy system, insurance verification, label generation, and cashiering. Competence in third-party billing functions is required. The role may involve obtaining immunization certification and performing immunizations under pharmacist supervision, and operating a motor vehicle to deliver medications and supplies.
