The Retail Float Pharmacy Technician assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. This role involves accurately selecting, preparing, and labeling medications, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. The technician will also screen phone calls, assist with pharmacy procurement and inventory control, and perform documentation for controlled substances. Depending on the entity, responsibilities may include nonsterile compounding, sterile IV admixture, inspecting medication storage areas, and completing medication admission histories. The technician is expected to seek additional duties when work is complete and may participate in quality improvement initiatives and assist in training other technicians. They will support area leaders, obtain and record patient information, perform data entry, handle cashiering, and develop competence in third-party billing. The role requires the ability to provide age-appropriate care and may involve obtaining immunization certification to perform immunizations under pharmacist supervision. Additionally, the technician may be responsible for operating an Advocate Health-owned vehicle to deliver medications and supplies.
