About The Position

Abbott's Nutrition business is seeking a Retail Development Specialist for its Retail Sales Team. This team is responsible for the direct sales of nutritional products to retailers, wholesalers, and U.S. military commissaries and exchanges, generating over 70% of the Division's income. The Retail Sales organization supports business objectives and builds strategic alliances with key retail customers through category management, shopper marketing, technology, and strong business acumen. The Retail Development Program (RDP) is designed for high-potential, entry-level employees to gain skills and experience through challenging assignments within Retail Sales over a maximum of two years. The program includes two rotational assignments, each lasting 6-12 months, in markets such as Columbus, Cincinnati, Minneapolis, or Bentonville. The first mandatory assignment is in Retail Operations, focusing on merchandising and distribution of consumer and nutritional products to various accounts, aiming to increase off-shelf distribution, eliminate out-of-stocks, boost sales, and build productive account relationships. The second assignment will vary, with a strong emphasis on developing analytical capabilities. Placement within the organization is earned through performance in each assignment.

Requirements

  • B.S. or B.A. degree required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical ability.
  • Good judgment, planning and organization skills.
  • High work standards, energy, initiative, flexibility, decisiveness and proven problem-solving skills.
  • Computer Literate.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and email applications (Outlook).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in sales, marketing sales operations, financial, customer service or information technology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Merchandising/distribution of consumer and nutritional products to food, drug and mass merchandiser accounts within the defined geographic area and/or accounts as assigned.
  • Develop territory to increase off-shelf distribution and eliminate out-of-stocks.
  • Ultimately increase sales and establish productive account relationships.
  • Consistent communication with Assignment Manager and Mentor.
  • Regular interactions with team members and other members of the Retail sales force.
  • Successful completion of assignments within the time-frame specified.
