About The Position

BikesOnline is opening its first permanent retail showroom in San Clemente, California, and is seeking an enthusiastic Retail Assistant to help establish and operate the new location. This role will focus on shaping the in-store customer experience, stock and merchandising standards, and daily operating routines, working closely with the Sales Supervisor. While a dedicated mechanic handles technical assembly, the Retail Assistant will be responsible for driving sales, generating foot traffic, and utilizing downtime for outbound digital and phone outreach. The position requires a passion for cycling, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to balance in-store interactions with proactive sales efforts.

Requirements

  • Genuine passion for cycling and enjoys talking bikes.
  • Retail sales or customer-facing hospitality experience.
  • Ability to build rapport quickly and communicate confidently.
  • Enjoyment of working towards sales goals.
  • Organised, proactive and takes ownership.
  • Comfortable balancing in-store customers with phone and email follow-up.
  • Desire to be part of building something new.
  • Working rights in the United States.
  • Strong bicycle knowledge — comfortable discussing bike types, components, parts, and accessories with customers.
  • Proven experience in a retail sales role OR a strong background in customer-facing hospitality (e.g., premium restaurants, hotels, entertainment, high-end hospitality environments) where skills seamlessly transfer to a relationship-driven sales model.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in the bicycle industry is highly regarded but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and engage walk-in customers with a warm, high-hospitality approach.
  • Deliver an enrolling, delightful demo experience that naturally drives add-on sales, repeat business, and referrals.
  • Act as a community builder, cultivating a welcoming tone and attitude to generate online product reviews and word-of-mouth marketing.
  • Confidently explain bike specifications, features, and comparisons to help customers make informed decisions.
  • Recommend and sell relevant parts and accessories alongside bike purchases to increase basket value.
  • Provide the same quality of service and follow-up expected of BikesOnline's online sales channels, in person.
  • Assist customers with basic bike fit guidance and adjustments during demos, referring more complex fit needs to a qualified specialist.
  • Conduct active phone and email outreach to drive pipeline sales and facilitate website checkouts during downtime.
  • Reach out to customers who abandoned their online carts, inviting them to the showroom for an in-person test ride.
  • Conduct outbound sales calls to past customers to drive repeat purchases and engagement.
  • Contact customers who place a "Click and Pick" order to arrange their showroom pickup schedule.
  • Call customers who scheduled a specialized "Fit Expert" session to help them select the right model and explain the 30-day in-home fitting process if needed.
  • Support the setup, layout, and ongoing presentation of the showroom floor to a high visual merchandising standard.
  • Help establish and refine day-to-day showroom routines, including opening/closing procedures, stock handling, and customer flow.
  • Process in-store sales transactions accurately, including payments, exchanges, and returns.
  • Monitor showroom floor stock, coordinate replenishment with the warehouse and category teams, and help maintain accurate stock records.
  • Maintain the showroom to a clean, safe, and presentable standard at all times.
  • Provide regular feedback and updates on showroom performance, customer trends, and stock needs.
  • Work with the wider Sales team to ensure a consistent customer experience across online and in-store channels.
  • Liaise with the Warranty and Customer Service teams on any in-store product or service issues raised by customers.
  • Contribute ideas and feedback to help shape showroom processes.
  • Undertake other ad hoc tasks as required by the Sales Supervisor.
