About The Position

Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries is seeking a Retail Assistant Store Manager to coordinate with the Retail Store Manager in overseeing store employees and daily operations, including customer service, stocking, merchandising, inventory control, budgeting, and record keeping. The role supports production efficiency and maintains store organization and safety. When the Retail Store Manager is absent, the Assistant Store Manager is responsible for all store operations. The position supervises retail staff, including Retail Supervisors, Donation Attendants, Merchandise Processors, and Sales Associates. It also involves carrying out production and retail staff duties as needed, maintaining customer service and donation processes, managing staffing and payroll within budget, and working collaboratively with the employment and training program to support Goodwill’s mission.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
At least five years of experience in retail or an equivalent industry.
Experience selecting, assessing, coaching, and developing associates, preferably in retail.
Proficiency in setting and managing schedules for store staff.
Ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing.
Basic math and computer skills.
Highly developed customer-service and interpersonal skills, including integrity, respect for customers, vendors, and employees, critical and analytical thinking, and appreciation of diversity.
Ability to work in climate-controlled and non-climate-controlled environments.
Ability to walk, stoop, stand, bend, lift, kneel, and climb continuously for prolonged periods.
Ability to lift and carry 35 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
Ability to work in a confined area and perform computer-based work frequently.

Nice To Haves

Two years of previous progressive retail management experience supervising several departments and/or staff preferred.
Broad knowledge of the thrift and resale industry and ability to respond to competitive situations preferred.

Responsibilities

Oversee and execute retail store operations in partnership with the Retail Store Manager.
Perform daily administrative and clerical duties, including cash transactions, ordering supplies, and opening and closing the store.
Work a flexible schedule supporting store opening, production, and closing operations, including weekends and holidays.
Assist with supervising and training employees.
Perform production and retail staff duties as needed, including greeting donors, unloading donations safely, completing donor receipts, sorting donated items, handling cash accurately, maintaining the sales floor, assisting customers, and performing store upkeep.
Promote exceptional service for internal and external customers.
Monitor donation functions and enforce security and control procedures.
Monitor purchase transactions and ensure proper sales procedures are followed.
Maintain production and sales-floor staffing levels while meeting budgeted payroll expenses; train new associates in accordance with Goodwill policies.
Keep the store neat, orderly, properly equipped, and supplied within budgetary requirements.
Maintain effective communication with other divisions and stores by email, phone, and face-to-face contact.
Work collaboratively with the employment and training program to further the organization’s mission.
Assist customers and handle complaints.
Maintain a safe environment for customers and employees.
Comply with and enforce organizational policies and standards.
Complete necessary paperwork and reports promptly and efficiently, and adhere to the supervisor’s work schedule.
Perform other duties as assigned.
