About The Position

H. T. Harvey & Associates, an ecological consulting firm based in Northern California, is seeking a field- or staff-level ecologist for a full-time position within their restoration ecology group. This role is located in the San Francisco Bay Area office (Los Gatos, Santa Clara County). Starting August 1, 2026, H. T. Harvey & Associates will become part of Integral Consulting, a larger environmental consulting firm. The restoration ecology team has extensive experience in the San Francisco Bay Area, working on diverse projects such as designing ecosystem adaptations to sea level rise, ecological contaminant quality assurance project planning, riparian/river restoration, freshwater marsh and pond restoration, and integrating habitat restoration into urban development. The role involves a mix of field and office work, including collecting baseline data, performing field monitoring, writing restoration plan documents, analyzing data, and contributing to reports. The position requires a candidate who can contribute to restoration planning and monitoring projects, with a particular interest in QAPP work and San Francisco Bay habitat expertise.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science (B.S) or a Master of Science (M.S.) degree (preferred)
  • Training and experience in some or all of the following: restoration ecology; plant ecology and taxonomy; soil science; tidal and/or subtidal estuarine, wetland and/or riparian ecology; hydrology; and/or statistical design and analysis
  • Data handling and analysis experience
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
  • The ability to make field visits to project areas on short notice
  • Travel frequently for fieldwork at restoration sites, primarily but not limited to, within the Greater San Francisco Bay Area, sometimes on short notice
  • Conduct field work and follow best practices for field safety
  • Hold a valid driver’s license with no major traffic violations or multiple minor violations
  • Walk over varied terrain for surveys and work in inclement weather

Responsibilities

  • Collecting baseline information to support restoration planning
  • Performing field monitoring and monitoring of restoration maintenance activities
  • Conducting post-construction restoration monitoring
  • Contributing to and writing restoration plan documents and ecological soil quality assurance reviews
  • Participating in multi-disciplinary restoration planning meetings with senior staff
  • Crafting restoration site maintenance recommendations
  • Analyzing post-restoration ecological monitoring data
  • Contributing to annual long-term monitoring reports
  • Contributing to restoration planning and monitoring projects
  • Playing a role in QAPP work, including data analyses, and field monitoring of beneficial reuse soil sites
