About The Position

GE Vernova is seeking a Site EHS Manager to support the rehabilitation project of the Manic-3 hydroelectric power plant, located in the Haute-Côte-Nord region (Quebec). This position is based on a rotational site schedule, with accommodation and travel provided in accordance with company policies. The successful candidate will work closely with project teams, clients, and subcontractors to ensure the implementation of the highest standards in Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) on a major hydroelectric rehabilitation project. The position is eligible for paid overtime during rotation periods, in accordance with applicable policies. Reporting to the P&S EHS Manager – Canada Region and working closely with the Site Manager as well as the Project Director/Manager, the incumbent will have the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive list): Key responsibilities/essential functions include (non-exhaustive list): Reporting to the Canada Region EHS P&S Manager and working closely with the Site Manager and the Project Director/Manager, you will be responsible for (non-exhaustive list): Develop, review, and update the project EHS plan and site EHS procedures from the mobilization phase through project completion. Disseminate and coordinate the implementation of EHS EHS programs and assist the EHS Site Manager, supervisors, and subcontractors in their implementation. Ensure the effective implementation of EHS Life Saving Rules (LSR) and the work process for High Risk Operations (HRO) and routine operations, including the implementation of permit-to-work procedures, ASTs, pre-task briefings, last-minute risk assessments, etc. Actively participate in the development, review, and implementation of hazard identifications, risk assessments, risk registers, rescue plans, work methods, lifting plans, etc. Ensure that risk assessments, work methods, and task safety analyses are in place and communicated to everyone involved or likely to be affected by the task before it begins. Focus on and actively contribute to the safe conduct of high-risk operations (HROs) by focusing on critical risks and the prevention of potential severe events (PSEs). Actively contribute to the EHS management process of GEV's subcontractors on its site, from the prequalification phase, through mobilization and onboarding, during work execution, and through to their demobilization and EHS performance assessment. This includes reviewing their EHS documentation and programs, as well as all EHS certificates, certifications, and authorizations for their resources and equipment. Conduct site visits to verify EHS conditions and coach construction teams, as needed, in implementing the site's EHS program and plans (including those of GEV, the client, and/or the contractor) and resolving issues. Conduct regular, thorough and consistent EHS site inspections, identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement. Act as a solution creator for the assigned site. Organize and participate in joint EHS visits and tours with management (GEMBA), clients, and subcontractors. Actively participate in EHS audits and EHS culture assessments at the site level. Deliver EHS awareness sessions to the assigned site population, as needed. Contribute to the investigation and analysis of all accidents or hazardous situations. Identify trends and causes, monitor corrective and preventive actions, and share lessons learned. Ensure that all internal and external EHS reports are completed on time, with quality, and accuracy. Inform EVM project management of unsafe behaviors/conditions observed on the project site so that corrective action can be taken promptly to eliminate unsafe behaviors/conditions. Take necessary steps to stop unsafe behaviors or conditions before they result in an injury or incident. Conduct regular and documented EHS inspections. Organize EHS orientations and assist the contractor/subcontractor EHS representative(s) in organizing EHS orientations for all construction personnel and visitors arriving at the project site. Organize, lead, and participate in safety "Toolbox" discussions, EHS breaks, EHS meetings, site committees, EHS committees, start-of-shift meetings, work method dissemination meetings, EHS kickoff meetings, etc. for GEV employees and subcontractors. Ensure subcontractors hold weekly EHS meetings and "Toolbox" safety discussions. Act as a support liaison for the assigned site, helping to ensure compliance with GEV's EHS programs and requirements. Liaise at the site level with client, partner, and subcontractor representatives, as well as medical, fire, and emergency services, local regulatory agencies (CNESST, etc.), etc., on EHS-related matters at the site level. Ensure GEV (and the contractor's and/or client's) site emergency plans are in place and emergency and rescue drills are conducted. Identify and share best practices in the region. Help the site team leverage best practices. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a technical field (mechanical, electrical, etc.) with additional training in EHS or a university degree in EHS. More than 5 years of experience in an EHS role, with exposure to multiple EHS areas within the construction project environment. Knowledge of the energy sector is required (hydroelectricity is preferred). Perfect mastery of risk management and prevention protocols and mechanisms related to high-risk operations (mechanical lifting, work in confined spaces, work at heights, electrical hazards, energy insulation, chemical hazards, asbestos, lead, heavy machinery, ergonomics, etc.) Has a solid knowledge of the EHS regulations of the Province of Quebec (LSST, RSST, CSTC, LMRSST, Regulation respecting prevention mechanisms specific to a construction site, etc.), and those of other Canadian Provinces and Territories. Available and able to work on construction sites and hydroelectric power plants, in remote areas (primarily in Quebec, but also in other Canadian Provinces and Territories), and on long shifts, in rotation (depending on the needs of the site) and with varied schedules (day and night shifts). Physically capable of working at heights and in confined spaces, climbing ladders, etc. Fluent in French (required). Proficiency in English (a major asset) Permanent resident of Canada or Canadian citizen. Working Conditions & Compensation: This position operates on a 14/14 rotational schedule (including travel days) with 10-hour workdays. The base salary is $105,000 CAD per year, with overtime paid at 1.5x after 8 hours per day and for all weekend hours. Additionally, we provide a per diem of $44.50 CAD for every day worked and a mileage reimbursement of $0.57/km between your home and the job site. Travel days are fully compensated at your regular hourly rate. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a technical field (mechanical, electrical, etc.) with additional training in EHS or a university degree in EHS.
  • More than 5 years of experience in an EHS role, with exposure to multiple EHS areas within the construction project environment.
  • Knowledge of the energy sector is required (hydroelectricity is preferred).
