About The Position

We are seeking a kind, patient, and reliable respite provider to spend time with a child in the child’s home. The role gives the primary caregivers a short break while ensuring the child feels safe, supported, and engaged. The provider will build a positive relationship with the child and encourage independence in a safe, supportive environment. Care takes place primarily in the child’s home, with some community outings such as parks or walks. The schedule is approximately 16 hours per month, mostly on weekends, at $14.13 per hour.

If hired by a Member or their Managing Party, that Member or Managing Party is the legal employer and has sole authority to hire or dismiss the Direct Care Worker. Consumer Direct Care Network assists with recruiting.

Requirements

• Patient, gentle, and compassionate demeanor.
• Comfortable providing personal care.
• Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy.
• Ability to understand and respond to the child’s needs, including navigating communication barriers.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience with childcare, babysitting, or respite care.

Responsibilities

• Engage in enjoyable, age-appropriate activities such as going to the park, taking walks, or watching the child’s favorite movies or TV shows.
• Provide personal care as needed.
• Maintain a safe, calm, and comforting environment.
• Offer emotional support and reassurance, especially when the child is frustrated or upset.
• Communicate regularly with the parent about the child’s needs and well-being.
