About The Position

The Respiratory Therapy Extern works under the general supervision of a Licensed Respiratory Therapist and assists with stabilizing, preventing, and remedying patient respiratory problems in all patient-care areas. The role provides supervised patient care, maintains respiratory therapy equipment, and assists Respiratory Therapy team members with departmental processes as needed. The position is scheduled for 8 hours per week (0.2 FTE) at ThedaCare Medical Center – Shawano in Shawano, Wisconsin. The worker shift is variable.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a qualified Respiratory program with one clinical rotation completed.
• American Heart Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification for health care providers.
• Ability to move freely, including standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling, and to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.
• The job involves exposure to blood-borne pathogens while performing duties.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the care of patients with respiratory problems in all patient-care areas under the supervision of a Licensed Respiratory Therapist.
• Apply critical-thinking skills and ensure order accuracy when triaging and prioritizing patients.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, families, physicians, and other team members.
• Assemble respiratory therapy equipment properly, follow safety procedures, and perform routine maintenance.
• Take responsibility for professional growth and development.
• Assist Respiratory Therapy team members with departmental processes as needed.
