About The Position

The Respiratory Therapy Extern works under the general supervision of a Licensed Respiratory Therapist and assists with stabilizing, preventing, and remedying patients’ respiratory problems in all patient care areas. The role includes supervised patient care, maintaining respiratory therapy equipment, and assisting respiratory therapy team members with departmental processes as needed. The position is based at ThedaCare Medical Center - Shawano in Shawano, Wisconsin, with variable shifts and 8 scheduled weekly hours (0.2 FTE).

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a qualified Respiratory program with one clinical rotation completed.
• American Heart Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification for health care providers.
• Ability to move freely, including standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling, and to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.

Responsibilities

• Assist with care of patients with respiratory problems in all patient care areas under the supervision of a Licensed Respiratory Therapist.
• Apply critical thinking and ensure order accuracy when triaging and prioritizing patients.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, families, physicians, and other team members.
• Assemble respiratory therapy equipment properly, following safety procedures, and perform routine maintenance.
• Take responsibility for professional growth and development.
• Assist respiratory therapy team members with departmental processes as needed.
