About The Position

The Respiratory Therapist provides comprehensive cardiopulmonary care to patients across the lifespan—from neonates to geriatrics—within both inpatient and outpatient settings. This role is essential in supporting high-quality patient outcomes through clinical expertise, critical thinking, and collaboration with the healthcare team.

Requirements

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • Current Respiratory Care Practitioner license in North Carolina
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – required within 6 months of hire
  • Minimum of one (1) year of respiratory care experience preferred
  • Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and patient education skills
  • Adaptability to a diverse patient population across all age groups
  • Commitment to patient-centered, high-quality care
  • Compliance with all health and safety requirements, including vaccination policies (with approved exemptions where applicable)
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening (post-offer)

Responsibilities

  • Administer oxygen, aerosol, and ventilator therapies in accordance with physician orders and clinical protocols
  • Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis and respiratory assessments
  • Assist with advanced airway management, including intubation and extubation procedures
  • Respond to emergency situations as part of the clinical response team
  • Provide respiratory support during C-sections and neonatal resuscitation when needed
  • Conduct diagnostic testing, including EKGs and pulmonary function testing (spirometry)
  • Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, treatments, and equipment use
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary care teams
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in compliance with regulatory and hospital standards
