About The Position

ChildServe is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to provide professional respiratory care for children, teens, and young adults as part of a multidisciplinary inpatient team, including pediatric rehabilitation and long-term complex medical units. The therapist provides care within the respiratory therapy scope of practice, physician orders, and each child’s care plan. The schedule is a weekend package from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., working either Friday, Saturday, and Sunday or Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Night-shift and weekend differentials are paid in addition to base salary. The role is benefit eligible.

Requirements

• Certification from an accredited respiratory therapy program.
• Current licensure to practice in the state of Iowa.
• Current CPR/BLS certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
• Ventilator experience.
• Ability to lift up to 35 lbs, move within the assigned work area, and frequently bend, lift, reach, and stand.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English in reading, writing, and speaking.

Nice To Haves

• Pediatric experience.
• PALS certification.
• Experience with tracheostomy care and changes.

Responsibilities

• Make decisions and provide a full range of respiratory therapy care based on respiratory therapy fundamentals, within the scope of practice, physician orders, and the child’s care plan.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and timely records according to respiratory therapy standards of practice and ChildServe policies and procedures.
• Communicate effectively, respectfully, and professionally with children, physicians, families, school personnel, ChildServe staff, and others so assigned children’s care needs are assessed, communicated, and met.
• Stay current with unit-specific and ChildServe information.
• Provide respiratory and related training to children, families, and staff to advance the skills and knowledge of people involved in a child’s care.
• Demonstrate good stewardship of ChildServe equipment, supplies, and environment.
