About The Position

The Respiratory Therapist delivers care to patients of all ages who suffer from either an acute or chronic respiratory illness or cardiopulmonary disorder. This role involves organizing patient care, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, identifying and solving problems related to equipment, patient care, or respiratory safety, and accurately documenting patient information according to department policy. The therapist must be competent in using technology and computers, perform assessments, plan patient care, educate patients and families, and provide age-specific care. They will employ scientific principles to manage cardiopulmonary systems, make recommendations for operational improvements, and work as part of a healthcare team to manage patient care and assist with medical procedures. The role also requires knowledge of and participation in the department's PI plan, appropriate use of department-specific equipment, and understanding of cultural variables in professional and patient interactions, as well as evaluating ethical challenges.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an AMA approved Respiratory Therapy Program.
  • Associate of Science or Bachelor of Science accepted.
  • Licensed Respiratory Therapist (CRT or RRT)
  • Ability to communicate with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
  • Current licensure to practice in Louisiana
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS & NRP.
  • Must maintain required hours of in-service per year to meet requirements for CEU�s as stipulated by the NBRC.
  • In good standing with NBRC

Responsibilities

  • Organizes patient care and general activities to accomplish required functions with delegation of these activities to other staff as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team in planning and organizing patient care from admit to discharge.
  • Effectively identifies and solves problems in reference to equipment, patient care or respiratory safety.

  • Has knowledge of and utilizes department specific equipment appropriately.
  • Understands and appropriately responds to the unique combination of cultural variables that professionals and patients/individuals bring to interactions.
  • Evaluates ethical challenges and their potential impact on the patient�s quality of care.
